Framer vs Webflow vs WordPress for startup websites

Framer, Webflow, or WordPress for a startup marketing site? Where each one wins, and the cases where we'd steer you away from Framer.

We build in all three. For most early-stage startups we reach for Framer, and it's worth explaining why rather than asserting it, including the cases where we'd tell you to use something else.

Early on, you're optimising for change, not launch

The site you ship at pre-seed is wrong within four months. Your positioning shifts, you add a use case, a campaign needs a landing page by Thursday.

Framer collapses design and build into one environment, so there's no file to hand to a developer and no queue to wait in. A polished responsive site that takes weeks in WordPress goes live in days, and more importantly, changes in an afternoon. That second property matters more than the first and gets discussed less.

The plugin tax

WordPress can do nearly anything, and the route to most of it runs through plugins. Each one is a dependency, a potential conflict, a security surface, and a few hundred milliseconds. Six months in you have a page builder fighting a theme fighting a caching plugin, and a site that takes four seconds to paint.

Framer gives you control over layout, motion, and interaction without that accumulation. For a company being evaluated by investors and buyers in the same week, the difference is visible before anyone reads a word.

Performance you don't have to buy separately

Core Web Vitals affect rankings, and slow sites lose people before the value proposition loads. Framer handles responsive images and clean output by default. Getting WordPress to a comparable place is a project, usually someone's contract.

Who can actually update it

Framer's CMS means your marketing lead publishes a case study without opening a ticket. Founders consistently underrate this until the first time they need a typo fixed on a Saturday.

Where we'd point you elsewhere

Webflow, when you need deeper CMS relationships, conditional logic, or a large editorial operation with many contributors and real permissions.

WordPress, when you're running serious publishing volume, need its plugin ecosystem for membership or complex commerce, or already have a team fluent in it. Fighting an existing team's expertise to save a second of load time is a bad trade.

The tool follows the job and the stage. For a startup that needs a fast, credible, design-led site it can run without help, Framer is the shortest path from decision to live. When it isn't the right answer, we say so before the contract rather than after.
